2006
Dear
Students and Friends,
It is with
both sadness and anticipation that we announce the decision
to close the teaching studio at the end of August, effective
at the conclusion of our Summer 2006 classes and workshops.
In addition
to the growth of classes, demand for my artwork, especially
portraits, has increased. I find that I cannot continue to pursue
two growing "careers" and do justice to either one.
After careful consideration and prayer, I have made the difficult
decision to pursue my passion for painting and portraiture.
I will be closing the teaching part of the studio on August
31 and moving to a smaller studio space.
For more
than 24 years, we have taught drawing and painting in the Littleton
area, the last eight years at our South Lowell location. Our
instructors and I have taught about a thousand students, both
adults and children, and trained at least a dozen teachers to
carry on our unique vision and method.
While other
art classes emphasize "creative art projects" and
"free expression," we believe that solid art training
and skill building are necessary at first, to provide the tools
for creative expression. We have taught eye training and classic
skill building, even to children, with exciting results. A number
of students who began with us as children and participated in
our Apprentice Program have grown to be promising young artists
and teachers.
This has
been a very difficult decision, which I have not made lightly.
I understand how much your art classes mean to some of you.
Many of you have found much more than art training with us.
You have found new confidence, healing, friendships, community
and even academic skill improvement.
Therefore,
I will do what I can to help you continue your training. It
is my hope that our gifted teachers will continue to teach at
other locations. You can check our website for contact information
about our current instructors and apprentices, as well as other
art instruction as I become aware of it. I will continue to
teach on a much smaller scale, and will also post my class and
workshop information on the website. Let me know if you want
to be notified of classes or workshops I may do in the future.
Also, I hope you will consider having a portrait painted of
yourself, spouse, children, or parents, as a treasured family
heirloom.
Thank you,
each of you, students, teachers, and friends, for your love,
support and encouragement for so many years. May God bless each
of you as you continue your artistic pursuits!
